Why I’m Walking for Life!
When women choose abortion, they are most often in such a state of crisis that there is no anticipation of the extent of guilt and shame and regret that may follow. In most cases, there is no mental preparation provided that may even give them a clue that these emotions may, and most likely will follow. For many, these feelings come immediately, for some, it’s after a short sense of relief. When the relief begins to subside, the haunting thoughts begin, reflecting on the life that once was living and growing inside you, is no longer there, “and it was your choice”.
“Abortion is no ordinary sin. Jesus, however, is no ordinary savior.”
Some women may struggle for years with many painful emotions and memories surrounding their past abortion. Abortion is no ordinary sin. Jesus, however, is no ordinary savior.
I know all too well of the emotional aftermath of choosing abortion. I struggled with guilt and shame and fear for years. I was fortunate to begin finding healing through biblical teachings through the church, but I still had a longing to share what I had learned with others to help someone that may be considering making the same choice or help in some way, someone, that may be going through the same pain.
I believe it was early 2019 when I reached out to the Huntersville Pregnancy Center. I met with Cheryle, the Bookkeeper, and Healed Ministry Coordinator at that time. I told her my story and she with me shared hers. It was such an amazing moment to share such stories with someone else that completely understood what I had gone through. She suggested I attend the upcoming session of “Forgiven and Set Free”, so I did. It was an amazing experience and brought forth more healing than I ever could have imagined.
Since then, I have had the honor and privilege to facilitate the “Forgiven and Set Free” Bible Study and walk alongside women as they courageously embark on their healing journey through biblical teaching, reflection, and group discussions, and finally finding forgiveness and reconciliation. It is truly amazing to witness the beautiful transformation of what was once a hidden secret of pain and guilt, but because of Christ’s atonement and God’s forgiveness, they are now forgiven and set free.
May we continue to speak of our sin and our pain and our forgiveness and our joy in redemption so that it may encourage others to do the same and just maybe reach one before she endures the same.
{II Corinthians 1:3-4} 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
